- Duplicate entry: Orders placed in SAP were manually re-registered in the RIS, and results were filed back by hand.
- Slow turnaround: Manual hand-offs added hours to the order-to-report cycle for routine studies.
- Charge leakage: Studies performed but not consistently reflected in SAP billing caused revenue loss.
- Fragmented record: Clinicians had to consult separate systems to see a patient's imaging history.
The Solution

- Hardware Refresh and Platform Migration:
Transitioned from IBM and Solaris systems to a high-performance Intel-based platform, leveraging modern hardware capabilities for better performance and scalability. - HL7 order flow:
Radiology orders created in SAP transmit automatically to the RIS as HL7 ORM messages, carrying full patient and visit context. - Results return:
Completed reports and status updates flow back as HL7 ORU messages, linking the report and the PACS image reference to the SAP patient record. - Charge automation:
Completed studies automatically trigger the corresponding billable services in SAP, aligned to payer rules. - Error management:
A monitoring console tracks message flow, with alerting and reprocessing for exceptions. - Compliance & audit:
Every clinical result is traceable end-to-end from device to record to invoice, supporting Ministry of Health audit requirements.
