Overview
DASH, a leading healthcare provider in Kuwait, has been running its hospital operations on SAP for several years with Oracle as the underlying database. As data volumes grew and the organization prepared its long-term roadmap towards SAP S/4HANA, DASH partnered with DigiMed Technologies to migrate its production SAP landscape from Oracle to SAP HANA DB — modernizing the platform while protecting day-to-day hospital operations.

The Challenge

The existing Oracle-based landscape presented growing constraints for a 24x7 hospital environment:
  • Performance bottlenecks: Month-end closing, billing runs and heavy reports competed for database resources, extending batch windows and slowing online users.
  • Aging platform: The database platform required specialized administration skills and carried significant annual licensing and support costs.
  • Roadmap misalignment: SAP's strategic direction and the hospital's own S/4HANA roadmap require SAP HANA as the underlying database.
  • Downtime sensitivity: As a hospital, DASH could not afford an extended outage window for the migration.

The Solution
DigiMed executed the migration using SAP's standard toolset with a hospital-grade cutover plan:

  • Assessment & sizing:
    Detailed analysis of the existing database, growth patterns and EarlyWatch data to correctly size the target HANA appliance.
  • Standard SAP migration approach:
    Migration executed with SAP SUM/DMO, combining update and database migration into a single controlled path.
  • Multiple dry runs:
    Two full rehearsal migrations on a copy of production validated timings, interfaces and custom code before the real cutover.
  • Optimized cutover:
    Production cutover executed over a weekend maintenance window with a clear go/no-go framework and rollback plan.
  • Post-migration optimization:
    HANA-specific tuning, housekeeping and backup/DR reconfiguration completed during hypercare.
